What words come to mind when you think about Benefit Cosmetics? Cool, zany, fun, imaginative, quality, fake-its—right? Benefit Cosmetics is a global beauty brand with a huge cult following, but, do you know who started this amazing company?

Jane and Jane Ford—twin sisters and co-founders of Benefit Cosmetics—were both 28 years old when they opened the Face Place in 1976, a beauty boutique in San Francisco’s mission district (oh how we love San Fran!). The unique shop quickly grew famous from delivering quick fixes for every gal’s peskiest beauty dilemmas. Now over 30 years later, Benefit Cosmetics brings us gals the most creative products to help go from “dull to darling”. Carmen Tal first discovered the Moroccanoil Treatment in Israel after a bad colour service. Her sister-in-law took her to a salon that used Moroccanoil and it left her hair soft, shiny, smooth and manageable. She had never had the same benefits anywhere else and set out to learn more because she enjoyed it so much. She discovered that the miraculous product treating her hair was based on argan oil, which women in Morocco have used for centuries to treat their hair, nails and skin. Because Carmen wanted to share its benefits with women around the world, she and her husband, Ofer, set out to make this product available to professional salons and the Moroccanoil brand was born. Galit Strugano was born and raised in Los Angeles, California – the city of dreams. And, dreams came true for Strugano as she found success working as a makeup artist to the stars. She got discouraged using glittery makeup as it made a mess while applying it on her many clients.
