When it comes to our faces, we should never scrub, scrub, scrub – but gently exfoliate. Exfoliation keeps your skin looking clean, healthy, more uniform in tone and less likely to break out. It addresses dullness and lining by attacking the appearance of past sun damage and allows for more effective moisturisation, so skin looks and feels comfortable.

There are multiple exfoliants on the market. I took five that are available and tested them on my sensitive skin. Here is what I thought of each of them:

Brand: Clarins
Product: Gentle Exfoliating Refiner
Description: Rich textured cream with ultra- gentle, refining and exfoliating spherical polishing grains. Ideal to promote instant skin-refining results.
Price: $27.50 USD/$34.00 CAD
Where to buy: Sephora, The Bay, Shoppers Drug Mart, major department stores
Overall: Just a little amount of the cream will do your entire face – so the tube will last for quite a while. It definitely left my skin smoother, and more glowing.
Would I buy? Yes

Brand: Dermalogica
Product: Gentle Cream Exfoliant
Description: A gentle, non-abrasive exfoliation treatment to thoroughly remove dulling surface debris, dramatically improving skin texture. Alpha hydroxy Lactic Acid, beta hydroxy Salicylic Acid and natural fruit enzymes detach dead skin cells, helping to stimulate skin renewal. Conditioning botanical extracts and humectants soothe the skin and combat dryness. Fragrance free.

Overall: This is a very gentle exfoliant mask that really works wonders on my skin. I wash my face and smooth a good layer on and ten minutes later my skin is glowing, smooth and clogged pore free. I use this once a week. Downfall is that it is very pricey.
Would I buy?: Definitely. This is my favourite exfoliant.

Brand: Ice Elements
Product: 2 Minute Miracle Exfoliating Gel
Description: A non-granular exfoliating gel with soothing Aloe Vera, natural botanical extracts and Hyaluronic acid (humectant). Gently exfoliates dead skin cells, removing dulling debris and excess oils. Rich in natural moisture to nourish new skin leaving it refreshed and vibrant. Great for dry skin and enlarged pores.

Overall: The gel was very pink and looked different from any other exfoliant I have ever tried. It felt lovely on the skin and was very cooling. I found that it really did exfoliate very well but when the gel begins to dry and you gently rub to remove, the cast offs were very messy in my sink.
Would I buy? Maybe.

Product: Green Apple Peel – Full Strength

Overall: This product works really well and eats all the dead skin cells from your face. I like that it is organic and natural. It is very expensive which is the downside.
Would I buy? I would definitely buy this as part of the Juice Beauty skincare line.

Product: Gommage 305
Description: This 4 in 1 product exfoliates, hydrates, tones and brightens, and works to eliminate flaws and dull, lifeless cells.

Price: $33.00 USD/ $45.50 CAD
Overall: It smooths onto the skin nicely and you just wait for a bit until it starts to slightly dry and then you gentle run it off. Once again I am not a fan of the peeling/rubbing scrub. I do not like the crumbs that fall into the sink and I am nervous of dragging my skin and potentially hurting delicate skin. My skin did however have a lovely glow and felt very smooth afterwards. Too perfumed for me personally.
Would I buy? Probably not
