Does your lip gloss or lipstick contain SPF? An estimated 3,500 new cases of skin cancer of the lips are diagnosed each year – pretty scary huh?
Several beauty brands are realizing the need to include SPF in their lip products and we thank them for that. There are now many fantastic glosses and lipsticks that contain SPF 15 on the market. Here are my top picks:
Aveda Lip Tint SPF 15
Enjoy sheer, shimmering, conditioning colour in 8 shades, whilst protecting those lips. This tint contains avocado and mango, babassu, jojoba and olive oils for top conditioning power.
Ellen’s colour choice: 250 Apricot from the Peaches family.

Bobbi Brown SPF 15 Lip Shine
Vitamins E and C soothe, hydrate, and work to minimize chapping of your lips, and SPF 15 protects to them. Lip Shine adds colour and shine with conditioning benefits that work even after colour is removed.
Ellen’s colour choice: For bee stung lips, try Claret – a rosy red.

Clinique Long Last Glosswear SPF 15
Available in a range of 18 glistening shades, Clinque’s Long Last Glosswear will provide you with mouth-watering colour for up to 8 hours.

Maintaining curly hair can be a challenge. Curly hair tends to be more fragile than straight hair, so harsh styling products can leave hair looking and feeling over dry and damaged. Here are some great tips from Redken for keeping curls under control:
- Wash your hair with cold water to avoid frizz
- Part and comb your hair in the shower while the conditioner is still in to prevent breakage. Use a wide-toothed comb.
- To prevent frizz, do not rub your hair with the towel but gently dry out the access water.
- Use a diffuser on your hairdryer. Only dry your hair until slightly damp to prevent frizz and brittleness. Then apply cool air to hair to seal the cuticle.
Bring your dry, brittle ringlets back to life by nourishing them with products and treatments specifically formulated to enhance curly hair. Here are some you may wish to try:
Pantene Pro-V Hydrating Curls
Make waves with hair that twists, twirls and curls around and around.
The Hydrating Curls Shampoo helps to invigorate curls as it helps remove build-up and residue, while the Hydrating Curls Conditioner protects and defines curls. Both of these products are gentle enough to use every day, even on permed or colour-treated hair.

I know that it is still winter and we have not even got to Christmas, but I wanted to share with you the Aveda Spring/Summer cosmetic collection that will be coming out in February.
Aveda have developed three spring colour palettes that capture the beauty trends from New York’s Fashion Week.
ZEN BLOOMS
With citrus green for eyes, sugary pinks for cheeks and lips, Zen Blooms look is “fresh and flirty”.
- Sundew/Watercress Triple Accent*—a soft, satin rose for lips and cheeks paired with a fresh, citrus lime for eyes.
- Jamberry Lip Glaze*—a sweet glaze of pastel berries.
- Plum Fresco Petal Essence Face Accent—shimmering fuchsia lit with gold.
- Moonstone Shimmer Accent—a liquid shimmer of pearlized pink.
SPANISH SUN
This palette offers a tango of fiery bronzes.
- Coco Plum Lip Tint SPF 15*—a spicy hint of chocolate raspberry.
- Tangelo/Pantana Petal Essence Eye Color Duo*—a seductive duet of tropical salmon and rich cocoa.
- Moss Eye Definer—a deep, exotic, moss green.
- Papaye Lip Glaze*—a glaze of melted, golden copper.
- Bronze Patina Cheek Tint—a sun-drenched bronze glow.
MOROCCAN MIST
Sheer watercolors of a Moroccan dawn. Moroccan Mist is about delicate colours that are a little bit mysterious.
- Waterlily/Seagrape Petal Essence Eye Color Duo*—sheer champagne pink paired with a hazy violet.
- Juneberry Lip Shine*—a delicate silk of pink mocha.
- Rose Swirl Lip Tint—desert gold swirled with mysterious plum-berry.
- Terrastone Shimmer Accent—a deep, bronzed glow.
* new shade
This collection as mentioned is to work hand in hand with the spring fashions. Have fun with the colours and make a statement.
