5 Makeup Tips To Get You Summer Ready

5 Makeup Tips To Get You Summer Ready

OK, so I know that the weather is not really cooperating–flooding in Toronto and it’s been raining in Vancouver on and off for days–but summer is coming. Really.

With that in mind, I wanted to share with you how to to look your summertime best with a little help from Guerlain Canada’s National Makeup Artist, Marie-Claude Brault. Here are her top five summer makeup tips, and six must-have products.

1. Show off a clear complexion
“This season, the complexion is nude, natural, transparent,” explains Marie-Claude. “Blush is swept aside for foundations and other light powders that produce a barely-there make-up effect and a naturally tanned, radiant complexion.” Two products she can’t do without? Terracotta 4 Seasons, a veritable master of illusion available in a wide range of shades that reproduces an astonishingly natural sun-kissed glow, and its greatest ally, Lingerie de Peau Booster de Beauté, that protects, evens out skin texture and minimizes flaws. An ideal duo for a pure, fresh and radiant complexion!

Marie-Claude’s tip:
Fair skin should opt for more iridescent Terracotta in beige tones, while dark skin should use shades of brown or copper. Trick: Apply with a light hand to avoid looking too orange!

2. Adjust the foundation
While it is generally recommended to choose a foundation shade slightly lighter than skin tone, summer is the ideal time of year to bend the rules and opt for a noticeably more intense shade. Fine-tuning foundation is important, too.

Marie-Claude’s tip:
The Météorites Perles fluide Éclat les Ors base, a summer limited edition, cleverly combines three shades: yellow gold eliminates greyness and revives radiance, white gold illuminates, and pink gold instantly erases signs of fatigue. Ever so iridescent, these precious pearls reveal the natural sun-kissed radiance of summertime skin, revitalized as if by magic. When combined with a very light powder such as Terracotta Light, a luminous complexion is guaranteed!

3. Enhance the complexion
There’s nothing better to enhance a complexion than a simple sweep of Terracotta powder for a flawlessly natural look: it’s like three weeks of sunshine in just three seconds!

Marie-Claude’s tip:
Using the special retractable bronzing powder brush, apply powder in the shape of the number “3” on each side of the face: the first semi-circle from the forehead to the cheekbones and the second from the cheekbones to the chin, following the jaw line and continuing down along the neck.

4. Emphasize nails
Make way for eye-popping, long-lasting nail colour this season! Several striking shades, including coral and red, satisfy all styles, however pink is by far the hottest shade for summer 2013, from barely-there nudes to flamboyant, eye-popping hues.

Marie-Claude’s tip:
Go for daring combinations that pack a fashion punch: lips, fingers and toes!

5. Stay natural
The best way to look beautiful this season is to stay natural, or with natural-looking make-up enhanced by a touch of colour. Less is more, and too much is out.

Marie-Claude’s tip:
This summer, make-up should focus on a single facial feature: eyes or lips. Touch up a tanned complexion for a healthy-looking glow and play with light to renew skin radiance.
