The Garnier Nutritioniste Ultra-Lift Wrinkle Ruler Challenge

By Lesley Ellen Mirza

I’ve definitely never thought of myself as a vain individual; my skin care and beauty routine are pretty low-maintenance. But, as the years go on (I’m now 41), the appearance of my skin is beginning to bother me. It’s not that I want to look like I’m 20 forever, but I guess I am just not ready to accept all the lines and wrinkles that have started to decorate my face.

When Garnier approached me to take part in the 14-day Ultra-Lift Wrinkle Ruler Challenge, using their Nutritioniste Ultra-Lift products (Garnier Nutritioniste Ultra-Lift Day Cream with SPF 15, Garnier Nutritioniste Ultra-Lift Night Cream and Garnier Nutritioniste Ultra-Lift Eye Cream) – and potentially lose up to one grade of wrinkles after two weeks – I jumped at the chance! Who wouldn’t want to turn back the hands of time, right?

I kinda laughed when I had to take a picture of myself with “the ruler.” But, then suddenly it wasn’t funny. My wrinkles scored, I believe, a 4 or 5! YIKES! I grabbed those containers of goop and prayed to the skin care Gods that my crow’s feet would soften over the following 14 days and that I’d have news to report to you all. (Just so that you know, “the ruler,” is our wrinkle reader tool. In front of a mirror you place the Garnier Nutritioniste Ultra-Lift Wrinkle Ruler under your crow’s feet and match them to the closest image on the ruler, noting down your number (1 would be very fine lines and 10 would be deep wrinkles). After 14 days you repeat the process to discover the results from using the Garnier Nutritioniste Ultra-Lift line of products. You can download and print your very own “ruler” by visiting

When I received the products, I took some time to review the packaging and learn more about the line. First off, I did not realize (and I am sure I should have) that Garnier uses 100 per cent fresh, ultra-preserved natural ingredients. On the front of each box there is a circular symbol that highlights what the “star” ingredients are. The Ultra-Lift line contains Pro-Retinol (from nature), Rice Protein and Argan Extract. This combination of ingredients work to help skin look smoother and softer, reduce the appearance of fine line and wrinkles, feel firmer, and appear more lifted, — who wouldn’t like that!

When using a face cream – anti-aging or not – smell and texture are pretty important to me. Is it the same for you? Both the Garnier Nutritioniste Ultra-Lift Day Cream and the Garnier Nutritioniste Ultra-Lift Night Cream have a soft and silky consistency, which my skin totally soaked up in a flash (and my skin isn’t super-dry). There wasn’t a sticky or greasy residue left on the skin. And, in the case of the day cream, it had almost a primer-like finish, creating a perfectly prepped skin surface for me to buff on a little mineral makeup. And, I am happy to report, though the products do have a scent; it is very delicate, not too feminine or overly perfumed. If they were highly fragrant, I would not be able to use them.

before and after testing of wrinkles

In my business, I have the opportunity to test a variety of creams – from over-the-top expensive, to drugstore brands that are affordable for almost everyone. I have to honestly say that I enjoyed using the Garnier Nutritioniste Ultra-Lift line and was pleasantly surprised at how hydrated my skin felt and looked after only a couple of days, and how, yes, I could see the lines around my eyes soften after two weeks. Now, I won’t say they’ve disappeared, ‘cause that isn’t possible (boo hoo), but they are noticeably better. And I believe that if I continue on, I’ll see even better results in another two weeks. What number would I say I’m at now? Probably a solid 3. And I’m ok with that. :)
