When it comes to prom, there’s a lot of pressure. It’s your Cinderella moment and you want to get the look right. Here are the biggest prom dress trends of 2012 and where to get them—no singing birds or mice required.
The number one trend is colour, ranging from whites and soft blush tones, to corals and orangey-reds, to brights like cobalt, yellow and green.
Stylist tip: “If you want people to notice your face, pick a hue in harmony with your skin tone,” says Kathleen Soldera, store image consultant for Carriage Trade in Toronto. If you’re a red head with fair skin, try champagnes, forest greens and plums. Rosy nudes and blush pinks suit those with warmer undertones to their skin. Jewel tones work best if your skin has cool undertones.
Carmen Marc Valvo’s ruched cocktail-length dress in electric blue, $599, will enhance pale skin and dark hair. Pair it with big, bold accessories—another trend—like a chunky, candy-coloured necklace.
