Who is Iris Apfel? And why has MAC Cosmetics collaborated with her on a makeup collection?
A New York socialite and fashion legend, this quirky 90-year-old is known for her eclectic and eccentric fashion sense, and of course a whopping pair of Harry Potter-esq glasses. She is such a notable style icon, that in 2005, the Metropolitan Museum of Art premiered an exhibition her entitled Rara Avis (Rare Bird): The Irreverent Iris Apfel. Perhaps it’s Apfel’s ‘fabulous flair and joie de vivre’ — as quoted by MAC Cosmetics — that inspired them to work with her.
In keeping with her love for bold colour, the new line is full of candy-hued lipsticks ($17.50/US$14.50) and lip pencils ($16.50/US$14), flashy nail lacquers ($18/US$15), and a kaleidoscope of eye shadow shades ($18/US$15) – all of which we LOVE.
Our picks from the collection are Pink Pigeon, a bright pink lipstick; Silver Gull, a sparkly grey shadow; and Too Chic, a subtly-shaded beauty powder (pictured at top of article).
What do you think of the collection?
