This fall’s fashion season is full of blasts from the past, timeless classics and a touch of the familiar. It’s all about recreating old looks and expressing your individual style.
Classic pieces rule this season; they are versatile and allow you to do more or less. You can dress them up with gorgeous accessories and heels, dress them down with flats, and wear them day in and day out. No matter what you do, they’ll always look fabulous.
“That’s the power of classic pieces and that’s why you should have plenty of them in your wardrobe,” says Robin Keeler, Yorkdale’s fashion director. “Silhouettes are simple, colours are neutral and fit is impeccable.”
Hot styles right now include the bold military look – shoulder pads, use of hardware like buttons and zippers, very structured pieces. Cozy comfort can be found in knit sweater dresses, wraps, ponchos or capes. And can we say that sexy animal prints are so in this fall? Oh yes! Make a fabulous statement in a leopard print coat, or choose to be a little more subtle with an animal print accessory – perhaps a zebra print bag. And for colour, “camel is the number one trend colour of the season,” says Keeler. “It is rich, classic and easy to wear. Red is also hot for fall 2010 and is a colour that can be worn by most women.”
In order to have a successful wardrobe this fall, professional or otherwise, you have to put in the work to lay down the proper foundation by choosing a base of simple separates that are easy to maintain and coordinate for a variety of looks. Look for pieces that will work with what you already own, what will be helpful additions to build on in the future, and what fits and flatters your body type. Some must-have pieces to consider having in your wardrobe: a structured handbag, belted coat, tweed pantsuit, kitten heel shoes, booties, leggings (jeggings or tights), chunky knits, wraps (ponchos or capes), anything leopard print, military influenced jacket, gloves, pearls, fuller cut skirt and minimal shift dress.
Is it time to do a little shopping?
