Whether you are destined for the shoreline or poolside choose a suit that you will wear with confidence. It doesn’t have to be an impossible feat and despite limited coverage good swimwear has the potential to work wonders with a little lift, tuck and support. Here’s our cheat sheet on the trends that work for your body type:
Monokini
A brief definition is perhaps in order: a monokini is a one-piece suit that features a variety of cutouts. It’s not necessarily the most practical in terms of tan lines but it certainly makes a statement. While the look may initially seem risqué, we argue that there is actually more material here than with the typical bikini and, with that, an opportunity to strategically highlight and cover parts that you want to show off or hide.
Cynthia Rowley for Roxy ‘Tanlines’ monokini, $100.
Prints
Taking a cue from the fashion runway, dramatic tribal and animal prints take a turn in swimwear. Play up curves accordingly; pear shapes are best to choose printed tops to draw attention away from the lower half, whereas full-chested gals may choose the opposite.
Eddie Bauer Miraclesuit Printed Rialto One-Piece swimsuit, $157.
Neon
A throwback to the 80s, this super bright style isn’t for the timid. But look at it like this, should you choose to venture into the water you’re sure to have the lifeguard’s attention. A slightly padded neon top is a great option for a small bust line.
J. Crew Solid Tie-Front Underwire Halter top, US $44.
Asymmetric
An asymmetrical neckline paired with a traditionally shaped suit, is an easy-to-wear way to sport this trend. Note that this cut will emphasize broad shoulders.
Firefly Asym One Piece swimsuit, $39.99.
Black & White
This duo is classic yet always feels of-the-moment when worn as a combo or independently. A black suit is a staple for valid reason– universally flattering and slimming there is a black suit out there for almost anyone. Ample support, a high cut leg and tummy control lay the foundation for a flattering plus size option. White suits are definitely trickier to wear and it should go without saying (but we will just in case) that a proper lining is very important. A stunning option on tan skin this is a choice pick for gals with body confidence.
Anthropologie Point o’ Woods suit, $78.
Cute post. I stay far away from the monokini. I really really dislike it! I just read this awesome article about it too, so it’s funny that I’d find another post about it. It must be becoming a really popular trend. http://fitandfabliving.com/index.php/whats-new/3297-style-watch-the-monokini.html
