Whether your style veers toward girlie, tomboy or edgy, it’s easy to look cool during even the hottest months with our five fave trends this season.
1. The Printed Dress
This summer when it comes to dress hemlines, extreme rules. Super short (yup we’re talking about the thigh) or super long (hello maxi) as long as it’s in a wonderful print –the latest digital manipulation to tribal to classic floral– we say go for it.
Geode dress, $345. Available at Carrie Hayes.
2. The Utility Jacket
The perfect topper for cool evenings, you’ll get the most wear out of a structured version in a classic shade like camel or army green that can be dressed up or down. While logic may reason that with all these pockets you can ditch the purse, we kindly suggest that you refrain from filling them up– unless you like the lumpy look.
Twill Cargo Zip Jacket, $49.50. Available at Old Navy.
3. Clogs
Yes you read correctly: clogs. They’re back and they’re hotter than ever. Just when you mastered walking in five-inch heels the wooden milk maiden heel makes a comeback. Most cuts of denim will work nicely with this shoe.
Ralph Lauren Shayla Leather Clog, $130. Available at Town Shoes.
4. Ruffles
So pretty and feminine, this is one trend that is flattering to most. The key is all about balance so pair ruffles with something that lends structure, like a blazer or tailored pants. Be mindful that ruffles will add fullness to an area, so wear accordingly and remember that accessories are an easy way to subtly introduce the latest fashion whim to your look.
Promenade Slash Neck Tee, $58. Available at French Connection.
5. Leather
Okay it’s true, leather is perhaps not the most practical material for hot days, but since when has that stopped us? Buttery leather prevails this summer in everything from dresses, to shorts to tops. More refined chic than biker chick, these pieces will transition nicely into fall.
Helmut Lang Cracked-leather Paneled Shorts, US $700. Available at Bloomingdales.
