Ok, we know what you’re going to say, how can leather be eco-friendly? And you’re right, not all those gorgeous leathers fit under the sustainable style label, but we’re thrilled that Vancouver-based designer Ashley Watson has found a way to indulge us. Inspired by the original features of soft and gently worn jackets, Ashley Watson designs her one-of-a-kind leather products using exclusively recycled material purchased from charity thrift stores. Using classic and boldly coloured materials (alls bags retain their original colour, so no dye is used), Watson incorporates original features, such as pockets, buttons and seams, into each unique bag or wallet design.
We love the new Fall 2009 Finch bag, fully lined with hemp/ cotton twill, one inside zippered pocket, hard, corded shoulder straps and overflap closure, this bag will take you from day to night, from fashionable to sustainable.
These recycled leather products get cleaned, polished and whipped up into something brand new for you, but reused for the good of the planet. Oh and did we mention that the money from her leather purchases go to charity? Now that’s something good for everyone.
