Cellulite must be one of the worst things that can happen to a woman – don’t you agree? It is hard to know who will get it as it is not caused just by fat but primarily from a lack of collagen in the skin. When the collagen weakens that is when you see the dimples – I know because I am one of thousands that have cellulite. I hate wearing shorts or a swimsuit as I have many, many dimples!
There are many products on the market that claim to reduce the appearance of cellulite, but how many are scientifically proven to work? DermaFirm has recently been launched and is proven to increase the production of collagen, creating smoother, toned skin on your legs. It has also been seen to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles on the face.
How does it work? There are two key ingredients:
VCPMg which is a form of Vitamin C and is a strong anti-oxidant and booster of collagen production.
Retinyl Palmitate is a version of Vitamin A and helps to keep skin stay soft and plump. Retinyl palmitate readily penetrates into the epidermis and dermis to increase significantly the skins composition to increase collagen, skin thickness, and elasticity.
Eating well and exercise are always important but they cannot increase collagen. Collagen takes at least three months to really reach it’s maximal level of production. It is suggested that you use DermaFirm twice a day and that an elevated collagen level can be seen as soon as six weeks.
My thoughts: The cream smells very nice – maybe a vanilla something? Not sure. It smooths over the skin and leaves it feeling velvety and not greasy at all. I tried it on my neck and my thighs and I do feel that my skins texture is beginning to improve. I think that after another month I will really see the difference.
Here’s to better looking swinsuit body!
DermaFirm is available online and at select spas nationwide. For more information visit www.dermafirm.com

Open Sundaes have just launched their newest product – Deliciously Glossy Lip Toppings. These hydrating glosses come in 10 fun flavors such as Vanilla Sundae, Cherry on Top and Candy Cane.
I went and tried the Sugar Plum Lip Topping last week and found it to be very smooth and creamy when I applied it. The colour was a lovely sheer purple and it shimmered like crazy. It lasted for a good many hours and never made my lips feel dry or tight. They come in an easy to squeeze plastic tube that is great for throwing in your purse! I would definitely recommend these glosses.
Deliciously Glossy Lip Toppings may be worn alone or over any lip product for more drama.
$13.00 CDN

Today I thought that I’d get a little more serious and look at skin
changes we have over the decades (as sad as it might be). It is important for us to look after our skin and if we start early enough we can slow down the signs of aging. I personally wish that I’d looked after my skin better when I was in my 20s. Had I known what I know now, I may have been able to prevent the crinkles I have today!
Your 20s
The hormonal teen years are behind you, and oil glands, which provide skin and moisture and plumpness, are at their peak production. The skin cells contain strong collagen and elastin bonds, giving both firmness and resilience.
Tips
- Start good habits early by hydrating your skin daily with a moisturizer containing SPF of at least 15
- Washing your face with hot water will strip it of natural oils. Be sure to use a mild gentle cleanser and follow up with a light moisturizer.
- It’s never too early to start using a night cream. Apply before going to bed and wake up to a beautifully moisturized complexion.
Your 30s
In our 30s, oil production decreases and fine lines and crows feet may appear (oh yeah!) Collagen and elastin start to break down and broken veins may show up as tiny red dots.
Tips
- Your skin may begin to feel drier so ensure you use a gentle cleanser and follow with a nutrient rich moisturizer.
- Apply a nutrient rich moisturizer before bed and try and get at eight hours of sleep a night.
- Apply an eye cream to around your eye. This will help in reducing the appearance of puffiness and dark circles.
Your 40s
Changes in your skin may be more noticeable now. It will become visibly drier and begin to lose some of its tone and elasticity. Skin becomes more sensitive. In our 40s skin has a harder time retaining moisture and its tone may appear less even.
Tips
- Even if you have had oily skin in the past it is time to add an oil free moisturizer to your daily routine.
- Avoid the sun as much as possible and ensure that you have sunscreen in your moisturizer.
- Exfoliate every week to increase the turnover of surface skin cells.
Your 50s
In your 50s skin starts to show character. As you enter menopause, your skin may feel thinner and more fragile. You may notice more wrinkles and a paler overall skin tone.
Tips
- Hydration is so important. Use a rich, protective moisturizer. Apply a nutrient rich night cream before bed.
- Use a creamy cleanser to assist in hydration of the skin.
- Exfoliate to clear dead skin cells but avoid harsh abrasives.
Well I hope that this information has been helpful. If you are not sure what products to use, go to a recommended Spa and ask an esthetician to take a look at your skin and give you their expert opinion.
